The Forest of Lost Thought

Bandervelt Manor
You are almost to the front steps. Bonesworth doesn’t hasten his step and keeps great composure even though his bones almost rattle with excitement. They must not get many guests here. You wonder if it’s for good reason.

“It may seem self explanatory with the name but it is much more than that. The forest guards secrets and tells lies. It takes truths and spins twisted tales from memories of your past. If you stick to any of the designated pathways you should be able to make it through, however it does seem stronger tonight. Perhaps it senses your presence. Be wary of your thoughts and your actions shouldn’t be hindered.”

Bandervelt Manor
You can see a vine that has grown up and around one of the mansions front columns. You could have sworn there was a face made from the vines there. With a second glance you determined it was just your imagination.

“Ah yes, Green loves nature, even its abominations. Especially that perhaps. He is harmless. Just be mindful of the flowers and keep fire away from the gardens and you’ll be just fine. Green came to us on his own one day. Doesn’t speak much but when he does his words certainly snare you.”

Bonesworth
A large beetle skitters from the left eye socket and stops in the skeletons mouth. The unfortunate critter is bursts as the undead butler speaks.

{You feel a little bit nauseated but recover quickly}

“Certainly, oh, sorry about that. You really have no idea how often that happens.”

Where is Ms. Jane?

What does Green do exactly?

Who owns this property?

Why is the cemetery off limits?

I’m ready to head to the manor now, thanks.

The skeletal butler is silent for a long while before answering. It was hard to tell if he had heard you before that. Their bones are perfectly still. It is more apparent now that they usually have a rhythmic shaking to them.

“There was an incident. Worry not, it shouldn’t affect your visit. As long as you do not enter the cemetery and the crypts beyond that. Not only for your safety but for the safety of the staff as well. We are all responsible for this land. some are more defensive than others of meddlers. Anyways, enough morbidity. I won’t bore you to death with minor details. Shall I escort you to the manor? Since you made your way this far in it would be disrespectful to not let you stay the night so you may head back in the morning.”

Thank you, please show me the way.

Let me ask you something else.

Thanks but no thanks, I’m going to head home. [Leave]

You can see Bonesworth straighten their spine slightly at the mention of her name. It is most likely a Pavlovian response.

“She would be up the road a ways. The mansion requires constant tending. A warning should you find yourself that way. She will not tolerate foolishness with in the mansion walls. If one of her many thralls discover misdeeds of any sort, you will be ejected from the grounds immediately. Unless she has other plans. I would simply advise you to respect things that do not belong to you.”

The timid butler tilts his head slowly and the bones in the neck crack softly.

“Green is our Groundskeeper. He keeps the grounds. A watchful eye on the gardens surrounding the east wing of the mansion and the Forest of Lost Though stretching impossibly far to the west. Beyond the backyard amphitheater however, the crypts and cemetery are off limits to everyone. Including myself.”
